The Thomian Alumni of California held a lively and well-attended OKThomianfest at the venue Last Name Brewing in Upland, California, last Friday. Over a hundred attendees, including Thomians and their spouses, along with notable personalities from other schools, gathered to celebrate a joyful evening filled with fun, music, and camaraderie. The atmosphere was electric as old friends reconnected, creating an unforgettable night.
A highlight of the evening was the presence of Rev. Marc Billimoria, the current Thomian Warden, who added a personal touch to the festivities. His rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” had the entire crowd singing along and swaying to the beat, creating a magical moment that energized the gathering. His visit from Sri Lanka brought even more excitement to the alumni, who were thrilled to share the evening with him.
The event was also graced by the presence of well-known figures from other schools, such as old Royalist Prof. Richard Shobhana Gunasekera (studied at STC Mount Lavinia until grade 5), Old Josephian Sanka Marcelline, and former Trinity College and CR & FC rugby fly half Shah Dole. Two former Thomian cricketers, Lalindra Wickremaratne and Dirk Tissera, also made a special effort to attend the event, flying in from different parts of the United States making the gathering even more special.
The evening also honored two prominent figures, Dr. Lareef Idroos and Dr. Vathana Ariathurai, who were the first President and Vice President of the Thomian Alumni of California. Both were recognized for their contributions and presented with special gifts in appreciation of their service.
The event was a resounding success, showcasing the strong spirit and bonds of the Thomian alumni and their extended community. It was truly a night to remember, filled with joy and celebration.
