Sri Lanka Customs officers have apprehended a Sri Lankan passenger arriving from Malaysia at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, in possession of over 10 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘Ice’. The seized drugs are valued at approximately Rs. 250 million.
The drugs, totaling around 10.197 kilograms, were concealed inside tea packets in the passenger’s luggage. The individual had traveled from Kuala Lumpur on flight MH 179, landing at BIA around 11:30 p.m. last night (18).
The suspect attempted to pass through the green channel, avoiding any declaration to customs officials. However, customs officers uncovered the hidden drugs during their inspection.
The passenger, a 35-year-old from Dematagoda, along with the seized consignment, has been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigation into the matter.
