Dilith Jayaweera, leader of Sarvajan Power (Sarvajana Balaya) and entrepreneur, emphasized the need for a robust opposition during the inaugural rally in Anuradhapura, launching the election campaign for the upcoming general election.
“We want to empower our movement to create a strong opposition that can drive Sri Lanka forward,” Jayaweera declared. He pointed out the growing discontent among voters, stating, “Assuming that the 47% who voted for the JVP will do so again is a wrong assumption. Many voters have become politically unaffiliated and are looking for an alternative.”
Criticizing the current opposition leadership, he said, “They have failed in their role, and we need a new force to take charge.” Jayaweera proposed key initiatives, including “increasing public servant salaries every six months” and “bringing petrol prices down to 200 rupees.”
He also vowed to tackle corruption, stating, “Who doesn’t want to see the thieves who stole from this country caught? We will stand with the people as a bold opposition until the last thief is brought to justice.”
Jayaweera concluded by reaffirming Sarvajan Power’s commitment to guiding the government and addressing the people’s grievances for a better future.
