Ranjan Ramanayake, a popular actor and politician, has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging that his party, the United Democratic Voice, faced restrictions while trying to take campaign photos at Battaramulla’s Diyatha Uyana.
The complaint states that Colombo district candidate Anuradha Guruge, a lawyer, was denied the opportunity to capture campaign images by the park’s officials. Guruge expressed her readiness to pay the required fees to the park management but was informed that candidates contesting in the elections would not be permitted to take photographs.
The United Democratic Voice Party contends that this incident constitutes a violation of Anuradha Guruge’s constitutional rights, raising concerns about fair access to public spaces for campaign activities. The party is calling for action from the Election Commission to address what they perceive as an unjust restriction on their electoral campaign.
