An investigation has been initiated concerning the rental agreement for a building used by the Ministry of Agriculture during previous administrations. According to the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, a substantial deposit of 66 crore rupees was paid for the rental of the property, yet years have passed since the building was vacated, and the deposit has yet to be refunded.
The Secretary, MPNM, has formally informed the Attorney General about the situation and has sought legal advice on how to proceed. Mr. Wickramasinghe, an official involved in the matter, emphasized the need for clarity regarding the financial implications of the agreement.
The building in question is located in the Rajagiriya area and is owned by the husband of renowned actress Sabitha Perera. The investigation aims to uncover any irregularities related to the rental agreement and the handling of the substantial deposit, raising concerns about accountability within the Ministry of Agriculture during the tenure of past governments.
