The Catholic Church plans to formally reject accusations made by former MP Udaya Gammanpila regarding two government officials implicated in the Easter Sunday attack report. The Church is expected to release an official statement today, denying Gammanpila’s claims and defending Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith against the allegations.
Father Cyril Gamini Fernando, the Colombo Communications Director, confirmed that the Church would clarify its stance on the Presidential Commission’s findings and Gammanpila’s accusations. This follows Cardinal Ranjith’s criticism during a Sunday sermon, where he accused the committee reviewing the report of distorting facts by subtly including officials connected to the current government.
The Cardinal expressed frustration with individuals who had remained silent about the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings suddenly speaking out, calling it opportunistic. He reiterated the Church’s commitment to uncovering the truth behind the attacks, including the source of ammunition and training for the extremists involved, and why early warnings were ignored.
Cardinal Ranjith also emphasized that the tragedy affected not just Catholics, but people from other faiths, including Buddhists and Muslims.
Gobbanpila is trying to get the catholic church tp popularise him through this circus. GP is a spent peice of political crap which must be disposed with the other garbage that has survived by similar crappy diabokical lies. Let’s ensure these are flushed out never to return.
