Minister of Public Security, Mr. Vijitha Herath, assured the public that the ongoing security situation in Sri Lanka would be resolved within the next few days. He made these remarks during a special press conference held on October 24 at the Ministry of Public Security.
Herath stated, “We are confident that we will restore normalcy in a short time. Once the situation stabilizes, we will be able to lift the warning issued by the United States and several other countries regarding travel to Sri Lanka. These nations have expressed satisfaction with the measures we have implemented, leading to an increase in their confidence in our security protocols.”
The minister emphasized that there has been no significant decline in tourism, asserting, “Tourists continue to visit our country without any major issues. We have effectively controlled the current situation. All necessary steps have been taken, and there is no cause for panic.”
To enhance safety in the tourism sector, Herath explained that the government has provided guidance to various organizations operating within this field. “We have instructed hotels to implement security measures and conduct thorough checks. Additionally, we have established a hotline for the public to report any suspicious activities, ensuring quick communication in case of emergencies.”
Herath concluded his remarks by urging the public not to exploit the situation for political gain. “As a responsible government, we are committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens and visitors alike. We have taken every possible security measure, and we ask for the public’s cooperation during this time.”
