Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s claims regarding budget allocations for increasing public servants’ salaries in January 2025 have been challenged by Mr. Lal Kantha, a member of the National People’s Party Executive Committee and Kandy district team leader. Speaking during a general election campaign in the Nawalapitiya area on the 25th, Lal Kantha labeled Wickremesinghe’s statements as false.
He contended that if there were indeed provisions set aside for government employee salaries, Wickremesinghe would have already misappropriated those funds for personal use. Lal Kantha criticized the former president for making such claims instead of stepping back from public life after losing the presidential election.
Additionally, he pointed out that some political factions are using the rise in essential food prices and national security concerns as focal points in their election campaigns. Lal Kantha expressed confidence that following the National People’s Force Cabinet’s formation on November 14, which will include 25 ministers and 25 deputy ministers, effective solutions to the country’s challenges will be implemented.
