Addressing the victory rally “Rata Hadana Api Ekata” at Galle Baddegama Kumme Stadium, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake asserted that foreign relations have significantly improved under his administration compared to the previous government. He noted an increase in foreign remittances, as overseas workers show confidence in the current government by sending more dollars to the country.
The President dismissed earlier fears about the National People’s Power, claiming that they have been proven false. He criticized past leaders for engaging in corruption and called for a new generation of politicians, highlighting that the youth were disenchanted with how politics had been conducted in the past.
Dissanayake announced plans to cut privileges for Members of Parliament and reduce public expenditures on former presidents, emphasizing that these measures aim to improve governance, not seek revenge. He also revealed a future digital program to enhance public service efficiency and stated that the new cabinet would be limited to 25 members, with necessary deputy ministers appointed.
He emphasized strengthening agriculture, revamping the education sector, and implementing anti-corruption measures, while noting that the country recently held its first free elections under his administration.
