The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) announced today (28th) that it will request additional information from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) regarding the recent proposal for an electricity tariff revision. The request comes as part of the third quarterly review process for this year.
The CEB had recently submitted its proposal for a tariff revision to the PUCSL, outlining changes to electricity rates. The PUCSL Director of Corporate Communications, Jayanath Herath, stated that the commission’s officials are set to discuss the proposal and review the details in depth today.
Should the PUCSL determine that further information or amendments are required, the commission will communicate the necessary steps to the CEB in a formal letter. The goal is to ensure that any changes to electricity tariffs are thoroughly assessed to meet regulatory standards and protect consumer interests.
The review process aims to address key considerations such as cost of supply, sustainability, and the economic impact on consumers. Further updates on the tariff revision will be provided following the commission’s internal discussions and correspondence with the CEB.
