Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya criticized former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s claim of a Cabinet-approved salary increase for government employees, stating that the decision lacked proper procedural backing. Speaking at a rally in Padukka, she explained that while Wickremesinghe announced the pay hike, the Cabinet decision did not involve consultations with the Treasury or Ministry of Finance officials.
Amarasuriya remarked, “The announcement was made, yet without the necessary groundwork to enact it,” implying that the promise was a misleading tactic during the election period rather than a feasible plan.
