Wasantha Samarasinghe, Anuradhapura district candidate and team leader of the National People’s Force (NPP), has pledged that under an NPP government, the law will be enforced strictly to ensure that corrupt individuals cannot secure bail from courts. He urged the public to support the NPP in securing a strong parliamentary majority of 125 seats to effectively tackle corruption.
Samarasinghe criticized the current legal system, suggesting that previous cases, such as those involving Malwana Basil’s land, Yoshitha Rajapaksa’s gems, and Johnston’s BMW, have been manipulated in favor of the accused. He accused other major political parties, including Sajaba, Pohottuwa, and Ranil Wickremesinghe’s group, of harboring individuals implicated in corruption, citing ties to Aloysius.
He emphasized that during the presidential election, around eighty parliament members faced strong opposition from the NPP, indicating the party’s commitment to reform. He argued that a substantial NPP presence in Parliament is essential to address national issues, bring new legislation, and end practices such as the transfer of party members for personal gain. Additionally, he promised to introduce amendments to pension and gratuity bills affecting presidents.
Samarasinghe concluded by stating that the NPP would focus on solving the country’s problems without selling off national resources, advocating for policies aimed at strengthening the rule of law and governance.
