Namal Rajapaksa, the national organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), emphasized the importance of bolstering the country’s intelligence agencies, armed forces, and police to ensure the safety of both the nation and its citizens. He made these remarks during a party meeting in Hatton aimed at supporting candidates contesting in the parliamentary elections for the Nuwara Eliya district.
Rajapaksa underscored that the SLPP is committed to protecting various cultural heritages, including Buddhist, Dravidian, and Islamic traditions, with a particular focus on Buddhist culture. He also addressed the current plight of potato and vegetable farmers in the Nuwara Eliya district, noting the adverse effects of declining vegetable prices. He pointed out that even as vegetable prices drop, consumers do not benefit from this reduction, and stressed the need for measures to support farmers and regulate rice prices.
Rajapaksa urged the President to engage with embassies, international organizations, and global Buddhist communities to address these economic concerns. He expressed confidence in the capability of the country’s armed forces, police, and intelligence agencies, which have previously proven their effectiveness in combating terrorism.
Highlighting the necessity to protect the political camp that has placed its trust in them, Rajapaksa noted the introduction of a new team from the Nuwara Eliya district. He affirmed the party’s commitment to raising concerns in Parliament about the pressing issues facing the country and securing the necessary support to address them.
