Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, has assured the public that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe will be summoned to testify regarding the 2015 Central Bank bond scandal.
Speaking at a National People’s Power (NPP) gathering, PM Amarasuriya affirmed that her government would pursue legal action against anyone involved in the misappropriation of public funds. She remarked, “Ranil Wickremesinghe has suggested I lack constitutional knowledge and offered to tutor me. Should I take his lessons? This is a man who was rejected by the people 17 times, yet he clings on. The sovereignty of the people is a cornerstone of our Constitution a fact Mr. Wickremesinghe seems to overlook.”
Amarasuriya criticized Wickremesinghe for delaying elections, disregarding Constitutional Council decisions, and attempting to influence the judiciary. “He should first grasp these basic constitutional principles before offering me advice,” she stated.
Asserting the NPP’s commitment to its electoral mandate, she continued, “We do not need guidance from those linked to the Central Bank scam. Legal action will extend not only to those involved in the bond issue but to all who have misused public funds.
