Former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte, who was taken into custody by Mirihana Police, has been remanded until November 7 by the Nugegoda Additional Magistrate.
Ratwatte, initially arrested in Kandy, was transferred to the Mirihana Police Station before his court appearance on the evening of October 31.
According to police, the former state minister’s arrest stems from the discovery of an unregistered luxury car at his wife’s residence in Mirihana, Nugegoda. The vehicle, found without license plates, was located on October 26, 2024.
An inspection prompted by police intelligence led to the discovery of the car at a three-story house in Embuldeniya, Mirihana, owned by Ratwatte’s wife, Shashi Prabha Ratwatte. During questioning, Ratwatte and his wife stated that Ratwatte’s mother-in-law resides at the property. They explained that the vehicle had been brought to the house three weeks prior by Ratwatte’s private secretary, who was later discovered deceased with gunshot wounds in Katugastota, Kandy.
