The Sri Lankan cricket team continued their impressive run in the Hong Kong Sixes Cricket Tournament by qualifying for the semi-finals after defeating Nepal by 40 runs today (November 2).
Winning the toss, Nepal invited Sri Lanka to bat first, and the Sri Lankan openers capitalized on the opportunity, racing to 58 runs within the first three overs. Sandun Weerakkodi was the standout performer, scoring a blistering 50 runs off just 14 balls, featuring five sixes and four fours. Captain Lahiru Madhusanka contributed with an explosive 31 runs from 8 balls, including four sixes and one four, while Lahiru Samarakoon added 22 runs in just 5 balls, marked by three sixes and a four.
The Sri Lankan innings concluded with an impressive total of 123 runs for the loss of only two wickets in the allotted six overs.
When it was Nepal’s turn to chase, they struggled against a potent Sri Lankan bowling attack. The bowlers quickly dismantled the Nepali batting lineup, taking the first three wickets for just 18 runs. Ultimately, Nepal managed to score only 83 runs in 3 overs and 4 balls, unable to keep up with the required run rate. Lahiru Samarakoon and Tharindu Ratnayake were particularly effective, each claiming two wickets, while Dhananjaya Lakshan contributed with one wicket.
