In light of the intensifying conflict in Lebanon, the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau has taken a protective stance by halting all registrations for Sri Lankans seeking employment in the country. This temporary measure will prevent further workers from entering Lebanon until security conditions improve. General Manager Priyantha Senanayake highlighted the government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens amidst volatile circumstances abroad.
With over 7,400 Sri Lankans already working in Lebanon, the Bureau has issued a set of comprehensive safety guidelines urging workers to exercise heightened vigilance and prioritize personal safety. The decision also reflects concerns regarding the possibility of expanded regional conflict, given Lebanon’s proximity to other unstable areas and active conflicts.
The Bureau is closely monitoring the situation and will review the suspension based on updates from diplomatic and international security reports. Lebanese employers and Sri Lankan recruitment agencies are also being informed of the temporary halt to facilitate understanding and ensure clear communication with workers already employed there.
