General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Mr. Tilvin Silva, recently stated that the World Bank had granted the Sri Lankan government $200 million without any specific request or conditions. Speaking at a National People’s Force rally in Mirihana, Silva highlighted this as an example of growing international confidence in the current administration.
According to Silva, the funding demonstrates a significant level of support and trust from international entities like the World Bank. He emphasized that the assistance was granted to the government without any explicit conditions on how it should be spent, suggesting that the funds would be directed toward development projects that would benefit the country.
“The World Bank has given our government 200 million dollars in recent days without us asking for it, to be used for development work,” Silva said during the rally.
This statement comes amid broader discussions on international financial support for Sri Lanka. Silva’s comments suggest that the current government has achieved a degree of international backing that is unmatched in recent history, positioning it as one of the most supported administrations in terms of foreign aid and development assistance.
