In a recent public address, Samagi Jana Balavega (SJB) President and former Prime Minister Imtiaz Bakir expressed disappointment over the current President’s performance, claiming that he has yet to fulfill any of his campaign promises. Bakir’s comments came during a gathering at the SJB office in Ginigathhena to endorse SJB candidates contesting in the Nuwara Eliya district.
According to Bakir, SJB differentiates itself by prioritizing direct and personal political engagement over grandstanding. He emphasized that the President, who won the election with a minority vote percentage, has not lived up to expectations, and his administration’s failure to address promised reforms has led to widespread public disillusionment.
Bakir’s statements underscore SJB’s strategy to position itself as a grounded, issue-focused alternative to the ruling government, tapping into growing opposition sentiment over unmet promises and stagnant progress on key national concerns.
