A police constable attached to the Maligawatta police station has been arrested by the Dehiwala police for allegedly breaking into a house on Railway Station Road in Dehiwala and stealing valuables. The 29-year-old officer reportedly took property worth over 1.9 million rupees, including foreign currency, gold jewelry, and electronic devices.
The constable was apprehended with the stolen items and is expected to be presented before the Mt. Magistrate’s Court. The incident has drawn attention to challenges within law enforcement, highlighting the need for internal accountability.
