Sri Lanka has been crowned the world’s “Most Desirable Island” for tourists in the latest Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, earning a prestigious Gold rating. The UK-based travel magazine noted Sri Lanka’s impressive rise from last year’s eighth place to claim the top spot in a remarkable turnaround.
Ranked ahead of Taiwan (Silver) and Puerto Rico (Bronze), Sri Lanka was praised for its rich cultural heritage, highlighted by iconic landmarks such as Sigiriya Rock, Dambulla’s cave temples, and the ancient ruins of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. The island’s natural beauty, from leopard-filled national parks to pristine beaches in Tangalle and Trincomalee, also contributed to its appeal.
In addition, Sri Lanka’s lush tea plantations and highland areas, particularly the newly introduced Pekoe Trail, have garnered attention, offering visitors a fresh perspective on the island’s verdant heart. This recognition solidifies Sri Lanka’s status as a must-visit destination for travelers worldwide.
