Wasantha Samarasinghe, leader of the Anuradhapura District Parliamentary Candidate Group for the National People’s Force, disclosed that a series of investigations have been launched into financial assets reportedly hidden abroad by previous government officials. During a recent campaign rally, Samarasinghe detailed that these inquiries focus on funds allegedly stashed in Ugandan banks by figures from former administrations. Additionally, scrutiny has turned to assets in Dubai, including hotels and residences, believed to be owned or controlled by individuals linked to these administrations.
He mentioned an unnamed individual who, according to Samarasinghe, traveled on a “blue flight,” a reference used to signal high-level connections, and may be a key figure in this investigation. The objective of these inquiries, Samarasinghe emphasized, is to ensure accountability and transparency by uncovering any potential misuse of public funds and addressing alleged corruption tied to these international assets.
