Premadasa continued his critique, accusing the President of breaking trust with the public by neglecting his campaign promises. He noted that while the President had pledged to reduce the tax burden and provide economic relief, everyday Sri Lankans are facing increasing hardships, with rising costs of essential goods and stagnant wages. According to Premadasa, the SJB’s platform aims to address these economic difficulties directly by implementing policies that would benefit all citizens, not just the elite.
The SJB leader argued that the recent surge in queues for fuel, passports, and other services highlights a government out of touch with the people’s needs. He accused the President of prioritizing the wealthy by offering them special privileges, such as reductions on luxury fuel, and criticized the administration for its lack of progress in negotiating a viable solution with the IMF.
Premadasa pledged that if the SJB comes into power, they will work toward fair economic reform. He promised to focus on job creation, increase the income levels of ordinary Sri Lankans, and alleviate the nation’s dependency on foreign debt through a more balanced economic policy. He added that the SJB would ensure accountability and transparency in governance to restore public trust in the government’s ability to fulfill its promises.
The SJB leader concluded with a call to action, urging citizens to support his party in the upcoming elections, promising a leadership that stands with the people and fulfills its commitments.
