Police have arrested a Buddhist monk in the Mahiyanganaya area following the discovery of a luxury vehicle, identified as a “Trooper” Jeep, which was found to have no valid registration or legal documentation. The vehicle is suspected to be in possession of fraudulent license plates, prompting authorities to raise concerns about its authenticity and origin.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the vehicle was transferred to the monk through an informal document, lacking any official or verifiable paperwork. Authorities have confirmed that there are no formal ownership records available for the vehicle, adding to suspicions about its legitimacy.
In a further twist, the luxury vehicle found in Mahiyanganaya bore the same license plate as another vehicle discovered in the Kurunegala area, increasing concerns about potential illegal activity surrounding the vehicle’s ownership.
Police sources have indicated that the monk, who also serves as a teacher at a school in Theldeniya, had been in possession of the vehicle for some time. The vehicle was reportedly obtained under unclear circumstances, with no official paperwork to validate its ownership.
The Udadumbara Police are continuing their investigations into the incident and have decided to present the vehicle to the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic and the Government Analyst for a detailed examination.
Authorities are working to unravel the full details of how the monk came to possess the vehicle, which will include a deeper look into its registration, ownership transfer, and possible connections to illicit activities. The investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
