Minister Vijitha Herath has asserted that Sri Lanka could become as developed as a European country in just five years, provided the country continues to be governed in its current streamlined manner. Speaking at a public meeting organized by the National People’s Power during the General Election campaign, Herath pointed out that the country is currently being run by only three ministers, in contrast to the past when it was governed by a large group of ministers, provincial councils, and local councils.
He emphasized that despite the smaller governing team, the country is progressing without significant issues, suggesting that fewer leaders have led to better efficiency. Herath argued that if Sri Lanka could achieve such positive results in just one month under this model, the country would be on track to become a developed nation in Europe within five years if the current governance structure is maintained.
Herath’s comments reflect his belief that simplifying the political structure could drive greater national progress, and he used the opportunity to highlight the success of the current administration’s governance model, despite its small size.
