Former Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has alleged that representatives of the National People’s Power (NPP) are avoiding debate programs on certain media channels, suggesting they are unable to address criticisms leveled by the opposition. Wijesekera made these remarks while addressing a public meeting as part of the ongoing general election campaign.
He emphasized that during his time in government, he consistently participated in debates, even when facing challenging questions. According to Wijesekera, while members of the government coalition have regularly engaged in media discussions, NPP representatives are now notably absent, leaving questions from the opposition unanswered.
“They are avoiding debates because they cannot answer the accusations,” Wijesekera asserted, suggesting that this reluctance to engage publicly might reflect poorly on the NPP’s ability to handle opposition scrutiny.
