An unusual logistical issue has arisen in the newly elected 10th Parliament, where 43 members of the National People’s Power (NPP) ruling coalition will occupy seats on the opposition side due to limited space in the government benches. The NPP, which secured a commanding 159 seats in the general election, far exceeds the 100 seats available for the ruling party in the parliamentary chamber.
This arrangement will take effect when Parliament convenes on November 21. While the initial session allows for flexibility in seating arrangements, parliamentary officials have confirmed that the distribution of seats will be formalized in subsequent sittings.
Despite the temporary opposition seating, the NPP MPs will remain part of the ruling coalition and actively support government policies. This situation underscores the unprecedented size of the NPP’s majority and the logistical challenges of accommodating such a large governing party within the existing parliamentary framework.
