Prominent Sri Lankan social media influencers Anushki and Kanushki Premachandra, known as Anu & Kanu, have taken legal action over the circulation of an AI-generated video falsely linked to them. The sisters filed a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today, citing repeated incidents of harassment.
Speaking to the media, the duo revealed that the latest AI-generated video began circulating widely on social media last night, perpetuated by a specific group targeting them. They stated that similar incidents had occurred in the past but have now escalated to unbearable levels.
Visibly emotional, Anushki and Kanushki emphasized the severe mental toll these attacks have taken. “This continuous targeting is harassment. We urge people to stop attacking women in this manner,” they pleaded, holding back tears.
The CID has assured swift action to identify and arrest those responsible for creating and disseminating the video. Authorities are also investigating others who have contributed to spreading the content on social media platforms.
This case highlights growing concerns about the misuse of AI technology to create deepfake content, exacerbating online harassment and targeting individuals, especially women. The sisters called for stricter measures to prevent such attacks and protect victims in the digital space.
