The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court today (18) that a total of 311 million rupees has been received as compensation for the victims of the Easter Sunday terror attacks. This was revealed during the hearing of the fundamental rights petitions related to the attacks.
The Additional Solicitor General, representing the Attorney General, confirmed that the amount has been allocated, but the Court has now requested a detailed report on how it has been distributed among the victims. The Supreme Court has ordered that this report be submitted on the next hearing date, which is set for February 27, 2025.
The three-judge bench, consisting of Justices Murdu Fernando, S. Thureiraja, and A.H.M.D. Nawaz, will continue to oversee the petitions. The Court emphasized the need for transparency in the distribution process and sought clarity on whether the compensation reached the intended recipients.
