The Chinese Embassy in Colombo has announced that the Chinese government has donated a total of Rs.1.5 billion to Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern provinces this year, aimed at supporting development in these regions. Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong has personally visited various areas in both provinces, overseeing and providing aid during his visits.
Between November 19 and 21, 2024, the Chinese Ambassador made several donations as part of his ongoing efforts to assist the communities. During a visit to Kaluwankeni village in the Eastern Province on November 21, he donated 4 million rupees to support the residents in building homes and improving their livelihoods. This visit was part of a series of regular trips by the Ambassador to the village, where he has contributed various forms of aid over the years.
On November 20, the Ambassador presented 8 million rupees in donations to the Eastern Province and an additional 12 million rupees to the Northern Province. These contributions are part of a broader Chinese initiative that has included the donation of housing units, fishing nets, and rice to help local communities.
The total value of all donations made by China to the Northern and Eastern provinces this year is now reported to be Rs.1.5 billion, reflecting China’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s recovery and development efforts in these key regions.
