Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Saroja Savitri Paulraj, has expressed the necessity of having a designated official vehicle and appropriate accommodation to fulfill her ministerial responsibilities effectively. Speaking during a television interview, the minister emphasized the challenges she faces in balancing her duties between the Matara district and Colombo.
Minister Paulraj explained that while her family owns personal vehicles, including one used by her doctor husband, she has relied on a vehicle loaned by friends during the election period. However, with her new ministerial responsibilities, she now requires a vehicle provided by the ministry to meet the demands of her role and align with the nation’s economic realities.
Highlighting her current routine, she mentioned that daily commuting between Matara and Colombo has become increasingly difficult. To perform her dual responsibilities of serving her constituency and managing ministry affairs effectively, she stated that having suitable accommodations in either location is essential.
The minister noted her commitment to using resources responsibly, selecting vehicles and facilities appropriate to her assigned responsibilities and the country’s economic situation.
Minister Paulraj’s comments shed light on the logistical challenges faced by public officials, particularly those managing responsibilities across multiple locations. Her request for official resources underscores the need for support systems that enable ministers to fulfill their duties efficiently while maintaining accountability to public resources.
