Plantations and Community Infrastructure Minister Samantha Vidyarathna has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rebuilding Sri Lanka, emphasizing that the process cannot be rushed. Speaking at a public meeting in Badulla, the Minister defended the government’s progress and warned against efforts to destabilize the administration led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Drawing a metaphor from Buddhist tradition, Vidyarathna remarked, “Even Prince Siddhartha could walk as soon as he was born, but President Anura does not have such an ability. A country that has been destroyed and bankrupted for seventy-six years cannot be rebuilt in two or three days.”
Vidyarathna highlighted the immense challenges the government faces in restoring a nation plagued by economic collapse and political instability. He assured the public that the administration is determined to eliminate corruption and create a sustainable future for the next generation.
“We will stop corruption. We will definitely bring the country back to where it should be,” he declared. “Our mission is to build a nation where our children won’t have to endure the same suffering.”
The Minister also issued a firm warning to those attempting to disrupt the government, stating, “We will not allow this government to be overthrown. Do you think a government that was formed through great suffering and hardship will simply give up? No, this government will not back down.”
Vidyarathna underscored the importance of patience and collective effort in the nation’s recovery, urging citizens to support the government’s long-term vision. “We have inherited a country that has been systematically weakened for decades. It will take time, but we are determined to build a stronger, more resilient nation for the future.”
The Minister’s comments come at a time when the government faces mounting criticism over the pace of economic recovery and ongoing social challenges. However, Vidyarathna remains confident in the administration’s ability to navigate the crisis and steer the country toward stability and growth.
