A 57-year-old Sub-Inspector of Police attached to the Uda Maluwa Police Station in Anuradhapura has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 29-year-old female police constable on duty at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Uda Maluwa. The incident reportedly took place during the night while the constable was on duty at the sacred site.
Following the assault, the victim immediately reported the incident to the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Uda Maluwa Police Station. The OIC then escalated the matter to the Anuradhapura Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who informed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in charge of the Anuradhapura Division.
The suspect, a resident of Vijayapura, Anuradhapura, was taken into custody by the Anuradhapura Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit and is currently under investigation. Authorities are expected to conduct further inquiries to determine the next steps in the case.
