Minister Sunil Handunnetti has assured that the funds allocated to President Anura Dissanayake through the interim budget account will not be spent but will instead remain in the treasury. In a statement made in Parliament, Handunnetti clarified that the interim budget is meant to allocate funds to safeguard against risks to the national budget, not for immediate expenditure.
Handunnetti also addressed speculation that the same amount allocated to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe would be spent in a similar manner for President Anura Dissanayake. He emphasized that the money set aside for Dissanayake would not be used, as it has been saved in the treasury, ensuring that it does not add to the country’s fiscal burden.
The minister’s comments reflect the government’s cautious fiscal policy, focusing on prudent financial management during uncertain economic times.
