The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has presented its latest electricity tariff proposal to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), promising stability in electricity prices for the next six months.
According to the proposal, the CEB has suggested maintaining current tariffs without any changes—either increases or reductions—during this period. This comes as a significant relief to consumers, who have faced frequent tariff revisions in recent years.
Interestingly, in October, the CEB had initially proposed a 6% reduction in electricity tariffs. However, the PUCSL responded by requesting a revised proposal, asserting that greater relief could potentially be provided to consumers.
This development has sparked optimism among the public and industry stakeholders, as it signals a pause in the upward trend of utility costs. Observers anticipate further discussions between the PUCSL and the CEB, with a possibility of more consumer-friendly adjustments in the future.
