In a surprising turn of events, Ravichandran Ashwin’s father has revealed that ‘humiliation’ might be the underlying reason for the cricket legend’s sudden retirement from international cricket. Ashwin, who returned home from Australia recently, was welcomed at the Chennai airport by his parents, who were visibly emotional about the news.
Speaking to a TV news channel, Ashwin’s father shared his feelings about the unexpected announcement. “I too came to know at the last minute, actually,” he said. “What was going on in his mind, I don’t know. He just announced it, and I accepted it with mixed emotions. On one hand, I was happy for him, but on the other, I felt he should have continued playing.”
He speculated that Ashwin’s decision might have been driven by feelings of humiliation. “There could be many reasons, but maybe it was humiliation,” he added, hinting at the possibility that Ashwin’s retirement was not entirely voluntary.
Reflecting on Ashwin’s long and illustrious career, his father acknowledged the emotional impact of this sudden change on the family. “No doubt it was an emotional moment for us. He has been on the field for 14-15 years, and this sudden retirement gave us quite a shock,” he said.
Ashwin’s father concluded by expressing his continued support for his son, despite the abrupt end to his cricketing journey.
