The Ministry of Education has revealed that seven prominent schools in Sri Lanka, including Royal College Colombo, are currently functioning without permanent principals. In addition to Royal College Colombo, schools such as Devi Balika, Prince of Wales College Moratuwa, St. Paul’s, Hindu College, Isipathana College, Lumbini College, and Piliyandala M.M. College are also without permanent leadership.
This issue is not isolated to just these schools. In total, 46 schools across the country are currently operating without principals. Among the notable schools facing leadership gaps are Bandaranaike M.M. in Gampaha, Sanghamitta College, Dharmasoka College, Devananda College, St. Thomas College in Chilaw, Joseph Vass College, Rajapaksa College in Weeraketiya, and M.M. College in Anuradhapura.
To address the leadership vacancies, the Ministry has called for applications from eligible officers. The deadline for applications is December 31, 2024. The shortage of principals in these schools raises concerns over the continuity of education and effective management, prompting urgent attention from the Ministry of Education.
