Sri Lankan cricket stars Wanindu Hasaranga and Kusal Mendis have been nominated for the prestigious ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award, recognizing their outstanding performances in 2024.
Wanindu Hasaranga showcased his exceptional bowling skills, claiming 26 wickets in ODIs this year with an impressive average of a wicket every three overs. His consistency has been a key factor in Sri Lanka’s white-ball success.
Kusal Mendis has been equally remarkable with the bat, amassing 742 runs in 17 innings at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 90.59. Mendis’ consistency was evident as he scored half-centuries against all six opponents he faced in 2024 and hit a memorable century against New Zealand.
The ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award nominees also include Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omrazi and West Indies’ Sharfan Rutherford, making the competition for this accolade fierce.
