President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has shared an inspiring message with the people of Sri Lanka, reaffirming his commitment to transforming the nation into a developed and united country in the New Year 2025. Below is the full text of his message:
We Sri Lankans enter the New Year 2025 with the dawn of a new era in which the good dreams that the country and the people have seen for decades will come true.
In the 2024 parliamentary election, we were able to connect the four directions of the island—the North, East, West, and South—gain the trust of all the people, and form a government with a majority in Parliament. Accordingly, we are currently working diligently to fulfill the accountability and responsibility of the mandate by carrying out a major transformation of the political culture for the sake of building the good state that the people expect.
We have identified ending rural poverty, the Clean Sri Lanka program, and building a digital economy as the country’s top development needs. It is against this backdrop that the “Clean Sri Lanka” program, which aims to elevate society to a more advanced level through social, environmental, and ethical awakening, is being implemented with the dawn of the new year.
With this transformative development exercise, we as a country have further consolidated the economic stability we achieved in 2024 and have awakened new attitudes. I firmly believe that the dawn of the new year 2025 has created a great opportunity to move forward with a new determination and solidarity, in order to inherit “A Prosperous Country – A Beautiful Life” for all.
For the first time in the history of Sri Lanka after independence, you and we have the opportunity to make the dream of a developed Sri Lanka, where all the people are united, by establishing a people-friendly government, a reality. This heavy responsibility that cannot be abandoned has been placed on the shoulders of all of us. We have a good understanding of that responsibility. We will work with renewed vigor and determination in the New Year 2025 to restore the achievements missed in this century and to make the dreams of the people a reality.
