Thirteen employees of a State-owned dairy institution in Sri Lanka were arrested Wednesday after they allegedly held the Chairman and other senior officials hostage for several hours over a wage dispute, police said.
They said that Milco Chairman Renuka Perera and several top officials were subsequently freed unharmed after the local police intervened.
Among those arrested were several trade union activists, according to police.
The Milco administrative building is situated in the heart of the island’s commercial capital Colombo.
Those arrested were to be produced before a local Magistrate on Thursday, police said.
