Media reports reveal that the Ministry of Tourism is considering the installation of an electric lift at the Sigiriya Rock to enhance accessibility, particularly for people with disabilities.
The proposal comes in light of past incidents where several climbers experienced heart attacks while ascending the iconic site. The initiative, reported by Mawbima, aims to provide a safer and more inclusive experience for visitors.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health is in discussions to establish a first aid unit at Sigiriya to address potential medical emergencies promptly.
The Ministry of Tourism has also turned its focus to other concerns at Sigiriya, including improving ticketing systems, addressing injuries caused by wild animals, and enhancing guide services for a better visitor experience.
