Sarvajana Balaya MP Dilith Jayaweera emphasized the need for empowering women to play a more significant role in the nation’s economy by aligning with global trends. Speaking at a press conference held at the Sarvajana Balaya headquarters on January 9, Jayaweera called for a shift in the political culture, which he criticized for historically exploiting women for political gain rather than fostering their potential.
“Throughout history, politics involving women has been one of mere exploitation, where women were used as tools to gain power,” Jayaweera remarked. He urged for creative empowerment strategies that don’t rely on waiting for women to ascend to positions of power.
Jayaweera further elaborated on the need to promote women’s entrepreneurship, stating that Sarvajana Balaya is actively working to create opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to the economy. “We started without power, and now we aim to provide women with the tools and opportunities to become successful entrepreneurs,” he said.
