Savithra Silva, also known as “Sangu,” the brother of Sri Lanka Test cricket captain Dhananjaya de Silva, has been remanded until January 24 by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court. His remand follows an arrest made by the Mount Lavinia Police in connection with an assault incident that occurred near his residence in Ratmalana on the night of January 10.
According to police reports, Savithra Silva allegedly assaulted an individual near his house. The person who was assaulted is reportedly a close associate of Kudu Anju and Alto Dharma, both of whom are implicated in the murder of Dhananjaya de Silva’s father. Following the initial assault, the injured individual returned to the scene with Indika Suranga Zoysa, also known as “Ratmalane Sudda,” and a group of others. They then attacked Savithra Silva in retaliation.
During the altercation, one of the attackers reportedly struck Savithra with a sharp weapon. Despite his injuries, Savithra ran into his house, retrieved a sharp weapon, and retaliated against his attacker. Both Savithra Silva and the individual he attacked sustained injuries during the confrontation and were admitted to Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila for treatment.
Following their hospital admission, the police arrested both parties involved. After presenting the case to court, the Magistrate ordered the remand of Savithra Silva. He currently remains under police custody while continuing to receive treatment at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital.
This incident has drawn significant public attention due to its connection to the family of Sri Lanka’s Test cricket captain. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
