The Department of Prisons has announced a special arrangement for Hindu prisoners to receive visitors on January 14th in celebration of the Thai Pongal festival.
Relatives of Hindu prisoners will be permitted to bring food and sweets sufficient for one prisoner on this day. This initiative aims to honor the cultural and religious significance of the festival for Hindu inmates.
Prisons Commissioner and Media Spokesperson Gamini B. Dissanayake stated that visitor receptions will be conducted in compliance with all health guidelines and prison regulations at all prison facilities. This gesture reflects the department’s commitment to respecting cultural traditions while maintaining order and safety within the prison system.
