Authorities are urging people in these regions to remain alert and take all necessary precautions. Those living close to the riverbanks are advised to monitor updates, secure essential items, and consider relocating to safer areas if water levels continue to rise.
In the eastern districts, Ampara and Batticaloa are facing additional risks. Minor flood warnings have been issued for low-lying areas in the Mundeni Basin in the Maha Oya Divisional Secretariat Division, as well as in Eravurpattu and Koraleipattu in Batticaloa district. Rising water levels in Maduru Oya, Malwathu Oya, and Yan Oya are also expected to pose significant challenges. Additionally, the Manampitiya area along the Mahaweli River is under threat of flooding.
