Former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, his wife, former Prime Minister’s Secretary S. Amarasinghe, and four others have been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court. The group was previously arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over allegations of financial misappropriation dating back to 2015.
The accusations involve the misuse of Rs. 6.1 million, reportedly received from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation under the pretext of providing relief to flood-affected individuals. Instead, the funds were allegedly redirected for campaigning during the 2015 presidential election.
The case continues to garner significant public and political attention as legal proceedings move forward.
