Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism Vijitha Herath has dismissed the notion that the results of recent cooperative elections reflect a shift in public opinion or dissatisfaction with the government.
Speaking during the ‘360’ political program on Derana Channel, Herath emphasized that while government-aligned groups have faced defeats in a few cooperative elections, they have secured a significantly larger number of seats overall.
“The opposition is exaggerating the few victories they have achieved in cooperative elections to create the impression that public opinion is against the government,” he said. He argued that such results cannot be considered an accurate measure of the public’s stance or a sign of disappointment with the current administration.
Herath reiterated that the government remains committed to addressing public needs and dismissed claims that these election results indicate waning support for its policies.
