Deputy Minister of Defense Aruna Jayasekara emphasized that while the country has an executive presidency and parliamentary power, effective governance also requires strong local government institutions. He stated that the upcoming Provincial Council elections, set to be held in April, will play a crucial role in empowering grassroots governance and implementing national programs efficiently.
Addressing a public event, Minister Jayasekara highlighted that the current administration has introduced a positive political culture and that real progress requires patience, determination, and cooperation at all levels of governance.
He stressed that in order to build a truly functioning nation, power must be decentralized, ensuring that decisions made at the national level translate into effective implementation at the local level.
