Industry Minister Sunil Handunnetthi has clarified his previous statement regarding the solution to Sri Lanka’s rice crisis, explaining that his remark about solving the issue with “one pen stroke” was a figure of speech rather than an immediate solution.
Speaking during a program on Derana Channel, Handunnetthi acknowledged that resolving the rice problem is a long and complex process, requiring strategic planning and policy implementation. He emphasized that while the current President has taken steps to regulate the rice trade, the process will take time to yield tangible results.
His clarification comes amid growing discussions on government intervention in the rice market, with authorities facing increasing pressure to stabilize prices, ensure fair distribution, and prevent exploitation by market forces.
