Colombo, Feb 5 – The government has advised the public to wear face masks and seek medical attention if they experience breathing difficulties, as several districts are experiencing slightly unhealthy air quality levels.
The decline in air quality is attributed to polluted wind currents from the north, according to the Department of Motor Transport’s Vehicle Emissions Testing Unit. Officials warn that air quality levels across the country are expected to remain slightly unhealthy in the coming days.
Currently, air quality is classified as slightly unhealthy in the following districts:
- Kurunegala
- Kandy
- Galle
- Ratnapura
- Embilipitiya
- Trincomalee
- Hambantota
Meanwhile, moderate air quality levels have been recorded in:
- Vavuniya
- Nuwara Eliya
- Puttalam
- Mullaitivu
- Polonnaruwa
- Anuradhapura
Health officials recommend that vulnerable individuals, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, take extra precautions to minimize exposure to outdoor air pollution.
The situation will continue to be monitored, and the public is encouraged to stay updated on air quality reports in their respective regions.
